October, 2006, Napa Valley – In a recent blind tasting in Paris, Grand Jury Européen
evaluated 30 wines from the 2001 vintage. Half the wines were from California, half from Bordeaux.
The Jury ranked Shafer’s 2001 Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon the number two wine of the tasting. Other wines
included Chateau Margaux, Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, Chateau Haut-Brion, Chateau Latour, Harlan Estate, Bryant Family
Estate, and more.
Fewer than half of the tasters could identify if Hillside Select was a Bordeaux or California wine.
The jury of 13 included 12 panelists from European countries and one from the U.S.
