SHAFER VINEYARDS ‘ADOPTS’ MCPHERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN NAPA
Relationship between winery and school is part of a wider Napa Valley wine industry program to support local education
August 2008 – Shafer Vineyards is pleased to announce a philanthropic partnership with McPherson Elementary School in Napa.
Shafer’s initial gift of $10,000 is earmarked to help build a playground specially constructed for the school’s preschool program.
“At this point we’re still exploring ideas for making a positive impact on the lives of these young students,” says John Shafer. “It’s been a real pleasure to meet the administrators and some of the students at McPherson Elementary and we look forward to setting a direction for this relationship.”
Shafer’s partnership was established through the local Adopt-a-School program, a collaborative effort between Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) and the Napa County Office of Education. The goal is for NVV winery members to adopt each of the 42 public schools (k-12) in Napa County.
Shafer Vineyards has a long-term commitment to philanthropy that is directed at benefiting the Napa Valley community. Previously the winery has given gifts such as this to Napa-area nonprofit agencies including The Wolfe Center, If Given A Chance, Napa Emergency Womens’ Center, and Calistoga Family Center.
Shafer Vineyards is a 32,000-case winery in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District managed by the father and son team of John and Doug Shafer. The Shafers own and farm 200 acres of vineyards, sources for Shafer’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah.
